Treatment time can range from a few seconds for a small area such as above the upper lip, to 8 minutes for the entire back.
This is probably the most popular Soprano ICE FAQ. The answer is – depending on the patient’s skin and hair type, results are typically seen following 6 to 8 treatment sessions.
The hair should be shaved a day before your appointment. Otherwise, the entire hair will absorb the energy and heat up, which can burn the skin, as that singed hair hits the skin. It also means less energy will reach the base of the follicle, so the results will be less than optimal.
- Avoid sunbathing, tanning beds, waxing, chemical peels or collagen injections for two weeks prior to the procedure.
- Do not use perfumes, deodorants or any potential irritants in the treatment area before and after treatment.
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements due to increased risk of bleeding.
Following treatment, patients should expect:
- Some redness and swelling of the hair follicle, which is a normal occurrence.
- Pain and discomfort, which can be easily treated with over-the-counter pain medicines.
- To be given a prescription for a topical antiseptic cream to be applied after treatment.
- An advice to avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week following all laser hair removal procedures.
Pre & Post Care
Pre-treatment Care
1. The area to be treated must be clean-shaven.
2. Avoid UV exposure (sun bath) and tanning machine 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
3. Avoid sunless tanning products 7 days prior to your treatment. It is recommended that you exfoliate the area to remove any residual color.
4. Clients should come to appointments with clean skin in the area to be treated. All clients who are treating any part of their face or neck will be required to cleanse their entire face in the clinic.
5. Avoid chemical peels and other laser procedures in the area to be treated for 2 weeks prior and two weeks after your laser treatment.
6. Avoid all alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxyl products (AHA/BHA), hydroquinone, retinols/retinoid, Tazorac, Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinol, and Differin for 7 days before treatment.
7. Clients with any abnormal lesions, moles or spots on the area to be treated must be cleared by a medical practitioner prior to treatment.
8. Clients must stop waxing, tweezing and chemical epilation 4 weeks prior to treatment.
9. Clients who have used Accutane or similar products within the last 6 months CANNOT have laser hair removal treatments.
10. Client should not perform any physical activity that increases body temperature or blood pressure within 2 hours before and after treatments.
11. If you have Botox or dermal fillers in the area to be treated, wait 14 days both before and after injection to receive treatments.
12. Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity. We recommend that you check with your personal physician prior to receiving laser treatments if you are taking a long-term antibiotic. If you become ill and begin taking an antibiotic, you will need to be off the medication for 7 days before laser treatment.
Post-treatment Care
1. Avoid extended UV exposure for 7 days post-treatment.
2. If blisters occur, do not puncture. If skin is broken, apply an antibiotic ointment until healed.
3. Avoid any additional laser treatments or chemical procedures on the treated area for at least 4 weeks post-treatment.
4. Using a broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 or higher is critical when receiving laser treatments and is recommended ongoing for maintenance.
5. To achieve the best results, complete the full treatments, every 4 to 6 weeks.
6. Exfoliate treated areas one week after the service to minimize risk of ingrown hairs.
